Google Trends… NICE!

Thursday, May 18th, 2006

If you haven’t checked out Google Trends yet, you best get over there and give it a test run. This is great for checking search trends for marketing purposes and even for those that love stats!

I gave it a test run with the search “web directory, website directory” and as you can see, Google creates a nice visual representation of the trends of these two search phrases in Google search. Not so popular search phrases return a message saying that “do not have enough search volume to show graphs”.

Google Trends - web directory, website directory
You will also notice that there will be news articles flagged on the graphs on relavent dates and in most cases were probably the reason for the increase or decrease in the search numbers.

Using all this and the Cities, Regions, and Languages tabs below the graph, you will be able to improve your target advertising. Let me know how you go and comment on your findings!

Mozilla Search Plugin

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006

Great news for all Mozilla users! I have created a Mozilla Search Plugin for the 100 lists web directory.

This plugin makes searching a little faster and easier. You will be able to install it from the directory search plugin page.

If you don’t have a Mozilla browser, I urge you to get it quick! It is a faster, safer and handier web browser. You be able to download Mozilla Firefox from the footer of the page, just click on the relative button.

Google PR5 in Four Weeks

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

Yes, you read correctly! The 100 Lists Web Directory has gone from a n/a to a Google PR5 in just four weeks. I registered the domain name only a month ago too.

I am pretty excited about this as you can imagine and I plan to blog my SEO tips and techniques to help you get your site to high page ranks as soon as I get a chance. The site submissions are increasing exponentially and not really giving me an opportunity to do so.

I can let you in on a couple of pointers to get you going, and I will elaborate on these at a later stage:

  • The first pointer is to have good topic/subject for your site (bit of an obvious one)
  • Submit your site to all relative categories in search engine friendly web directories
  • Make good use of tags and descriptions throughout your site
  • Make sure that your site is W3C standards compliant and that your CSS file validates too

These are the basic ones that you should keep in mind while developing and promoting your website. Stay tuned as I will explain more on each of these and many more!
