Customisable Search Engine
Google has recently launched a customisable search engine and it can be plugged into your site too.
There are a number of tools that you can use to generate code for adding a search box and the results to your site. The look and feel can be adjusted to match you site colours too. Adding this Google search engine to your site is a great way to add a search feature to your site. I have tested it out in my directory.
Another great feature is that you can add exactly what sites you would like your search engine to source the results from. You can then keep to a specific topic and use only sites on that topic.
You can also plug your Adsense account details into the search engine and earn revenue from ad clicks… thanks Google for sharing the love!

Is it possible to have two search engines for a site. I have been on sites that use this and it seems to leave the site, even if you click search the site button. I also have been on site that have two search engines, this seems to work a lot better for actually searching the site.

Google has the one where you make a search on a site and it does leave that site and go to a customised Google page with only that sites pages. This new one can be integrated into your site itself so that it appears to be your search engine. You can add as many sites to your searcg engine as you wish. For example you may have three site that you would like to have search results for. A number of people are creating their own specific search engines and add only “beer” sites to their engine… could be quite fun!
