Microsoft Internet Explorer 7

Internet Explorer 7

Today I was prompted by my Windows update manager to download and install Internet Explorer 7. I think it is an interesting way to push out their new web browser (as an update / upgrade). The advice text:

“This free upgrade to Internet Explorer for genuine Windows customers offers improvements such as: enhanced security to help protect you from malicious software and fraudulent websites; a cleaner look, including tabs for browsing multiple pages in one window; features to make everyday tasks such as printing and searching the web easier. This upgrade preserves your current home page, search settings, favorites, and compatible toolbars, and can be uninstalled if you decide to do so.” - automatic updates manager.

No doubt this “upgrade” will reset or try to reset the default browser on the pc back to IE7 (if it is not set to IE already) in an attempt to recapture those that have set any competitors as their default choose.

How is IE7 going to make printing and searching the web any easier I ask you!?

I am so glad that the upgrade is going to “preserves your current home page, search settings, favorites, and compatible toolbars, and can be uninstalled if you decide to do so“! [hint of sarcasm]

I am reluctant to continue with the upgrade. As a web developer, I am continually testing pages that I build in all the browsers, making sure that they display the page as intended. If I upgrade, I am sure to lose IE6. I will find out how to have multiple versions of IE on my pc for testing purposes and blog it.

Ending on a good note… I hear that this release of IE7 is more stable and includes all the features. Check out MS at EI7 for more info and for downloading Internet Explorer.

Does it seem like they IE wants to be like Firefox? Can you really blame them. I tried the new Explorer, and is succeeded in making me uninstall explorer. Actually the last straw was when Explorer gave me an error message about the google tool bar.
